ALDA
Mentorship

The Purpose

ALDA’s mentorship service is a peer support network, provided by adults and older youth who may, or may not, have learning disabilities or learning difficulties, for others who have similar issues.

What is a Mentor?

ALDA’s mentors are everyday people who become role models. They tell candid examples of their personal life experiences to demonstrate what did, or didn't work for them. This guidance gives support and encouragement to other adults and older youth who have learning disabilities or learning difficulties.

The Benefits!

Mentorship is mutually beneficial! Mentors become active members in the community and those being mentored gain the encouragement they need to foster a new sense of hope, along with new ways of coping with their learning disability from the experience of others.

Training Provided?

Mentors attend a training session that provides:

  • An overview of the mentorship service
  • Clarification of their roles and expectations
  • Discussion of mentoring activities

If you are an adult with life experience then you qualify! ALDA's members, participants and clients love to hear what life is like for you, where you are at now and where you would eventually like to be!

Those being mentored gain valuable insight into how to manage the small things in life that for some can be so hard to master when you have a learning disability.

ALDA members, clients and participants would love to hear from you!
